Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- How often should I groom my dog?
The frequency of grooming depends on your dog’s breed, coat type, and lifestyle. On average, most dogs benefit from grooming every 4–8 weeks.
- Do I need to groom my short-haired dog?
Yes, short-haired dogs still need regular grooming to remove loose hair, dirt, and oils from their coat, as well as nail trimming and ear cleaning.
- How long does a grooming appointment take?
Most grooming sessions take 2–4 hours, depending on the size of the dog, the coat condition, and the services requested.
- What services are included in a full grooming package?
A full grooming package typically includes a bath, blow-dry, brushing, haircut, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and a hygiene trim.
- Do you groom puppies?
Yes, I groom puppies. It’s best to introduce them to grooming between 12–16 weeks to help them get comfortable with the process.
- What if my dog is nervous or aggressive during grooming?
I handle all dogs with care and patience. If your dog is particularly anxious or aggressive, let me know in advance so I can take appropriate measures to ensure their safety and comfort. If the dog becomes too aggressive to groom, I will give you a call to discuss, potentially to pick them up.
- Can you groom my dog if they have fleas or ticks?
I recommend treating your dog for fleas or ticks before bringing them in. However, if I discover fleas or ticks during the grooming session, an additional fee will apply for treatment.
- What products do you use for grooming?
I use Australian made high-quality, pet-safe shampoos, conditioners, and grooming tools designed specifically for dogs with various coat types and sensitivities.
- Will my dog be caged during the appointment?
For their safety, dogs may be kept in a comfortable crate after grooming. I aim to minimise waiting times as much as possible.
- Can I stay and watch while my dog is groomed?
Due to safety and to minimise distractions, I generally ask owners not to stay in the grooming area. However, you are welcome to discuss your preferences with me.
- How do you handle matted coats?
If your dog’s coat is severely matted, I may need to shave the affected areas to avoid discomfort or injury. Regular grooming and brushing help prevent matting.
- What should I do to prepare my dog for grooming?
Ensure your dog is clean, brushed (if possible), and has had a bathroom break before the appointment. This helps me focus on their grooming needs.
- What breeds do you specialise in grooming?
I groom all breeds, under 20 kg, and tailor my services to meet the unique needs of each breed and coat type.
- How do you trim nails safely?
I use professional nail clippers to trim nails to the correct length, ensuring your dog’s comfort and preventing over-cutting. On some occasions I may deem it not safe to trim and recommend booking them into seeing a vet for this. i.e. Black nails, or if the dog is too anxious about having their paws touched.
- Do you offer de-shedding treatments?
Yes, I offer de-shedding treatments to reduce loose hair, which is especially helpful for breeds that shed heavily.

- How can I prevent my dog’s coat from matting between grooming sessions?
Regular brushing at home with the appropriate tools and scheduling consistent grooming appointments are key to preventing matting.
